How to Use the Age Calculator

The Age Calculator gives you a precise breakdown of your age, from years all the way down to the exact number of minutes you've been alive. It also tells you what day of the week you were born and how many days until your next birthday.

How to Calculate Your Age

Select your date of birth using the date picker. The "Age As Of" date defaults to today but can be changed — for example, to calculate how old someone will be on a future date, or how old a historical figure was on a specific date. Click Calculate Age to see your results.

Understanding the Results

Leap Year Handling

The calculator correctly handles leap years in all calculations. If you were born on February 29 (a leap day), your birthday in non-leap years is treated as March 1 for the purposes of the "next birthday" countdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the calculator count months?

Months are counted based on calendar months, not 30-day periods. For example, from January 15 to March 15 is exactly 2 months. From January 31 to March 31 is also 2 months. The day-of-month comparison is used to determine whether a complete month has passed. This matches how humans naturally think about age (you turn 25 on your birthday, not 25.08 years).

Why does my total minutes count seem so large?

Minutes add up very quickly. A 30-year-old has lived through approximately 15.7 million minutes (30 × 365.25 × 24 × 60). By age 40, that's around 21 million minutes. These large numbers are accurate — our lives are actually much longer than we intuitively feel when measured in small units like minutes or hours.

Can I calculate someone else's age?

Yes — simply enter their date of birth in the first field. The "Age As Of" field defaults to today but you can change it to any date. This lets you calculate how old someone was (or will be) on any specific date in history or the future. Useful for verifying ages for legal documents, historical research, or checking someone's age at a specific life event.

What's the earliest/latest date I can enter?

The date picker supports any date in the range accepted by HTML date inputs, typically from year 1 to year 9999. For practical purposes, birth dates more than ~125 years ago are beyond the oldest confirmed human lifespans. The "Age As Of" date can be set to future dates to project ages forward, which is useful for planning purposes.

How is the "next birthday" calculated?

The calculator takes the month and day of your birth date and finds the next occurrence of that date in the current year or the following year. It then counts the days from the "Age As Of" date to that next birthday, and determines which day of the week it falls on. If your birthday is today (zero days away), it shows "Today is your birthday!"
